Original and Deluxe Kit Guide

This guide covers both the Original and Deluxe Sourdough Starter Kits.

The purpose of this guide is to take you through all the steps in a little extra detail, taking you all the way to baking your first loaf.

Sourdough baking can sometimes seem a little overwhelming, and although our kits do make the process a whole lot quicker and easier, we really encourage you to learn a little about sourdough before you begin. It’s totally worth it and the journey is incredibly rewarding.

What is included in your kit?

  • 30g of dehydrated starter

  • Muslin cloth

  • Elastic band

  • Name label

Activating your starter

Firstly, familiarise yourself with the activation instructions, if you have the deluxe, this is on the reverse side of the inner sleeve.

When you're ready, follow the instructions and bring your sourdough starter back to life. This process will take approximately four days.

Once your sourdough starter is activated, if cared for properly, it will last you a lifetime. Click here If you would like to learn more about maintaining your sourdough starter.

Baking your bread

Now that your starter is active, it can be used in sourdough baking. However, you will need to schedule a feed for optimal results. More on this and the perfect time to use your sourdough starter can be found here.

Once you are ready, we highly recommend our basic sourdough recipe.

Onwards

From now onwards you will need to look at how you plan to maintain your sourdough starter. This mostly comes down to personal preference, as well as baking frequency. You will need to determine where to keep your starter, how often you will feed it, and how much. Information on this can be found here.
