Sourdough French Toast

This sourdough french toast is incredible, it’s chewy, yet fluffy on the inside, and beautifully golden and crispy on the outside. This is the best way to perk up your left over sourdough bread.

It’s also incredibly versatile, so get creative with your toppings.

This is such good way to use up any ‘imperfect’ sourdough loaves or those few slices that are lingering in the bread bag.

Lets go!

  • 100ml Milk

  • 50g Granulated Sugar

  • 2-4 Large Slices of Sourdough Bread (extra thick cut)

  • 2 Large Eggs

  • 1 tbsp Unsalted Butter

  • 1 tbsp Neutral Oil (sunflower or vegetable)

  • 1 tsp Vanilla Extract

  • Sea salt

  • Toppings

Step 1)

In a large bowl, beat together your eggs, milk, sugar, vanilla extract and pinch of sea salt until well combined. Transfer to a wide, shallow dish (large enough to fully fit a bread slice).

Step 2)

Pre heat a large skillet or heavy based frying pan over medium heat. Heat 1 tbsp of butter and 1 tbsp of oil. Coat your pan evenly.

One by one, place a piece of your thick cut sourdough into your batter ensuring it is fully coated and has absorbed the mix. Flip if needed before transferring to your pan.

Step 3)

Cook for 1-2 minutes on each side until golden brown and crispy around the edges.

Top tip: Whilst waiting for your french toast to cook, you can leave your next slices to soak in the mix.

Top with whatever you like. We recommend a generous drizzle of maple syrup, a knob of butter, fruit and powdered sugar but do get creative!
